Slower on purpose

Walking netball is netball, at walking pace.

No running, no jumping, the same game. It is played by people coming back after injury, people who have never played, people in their seventies and eighties, and people who simply prefer it. This is the map of where it happens, free to search and free to join.

What it is

Walking netball keeps the rules and the seven positions but takes out the running and jumping: one foot stays on the ground, and there is a little more time to pass. National bodies in England, Australia and New Zealand run it as a recognised form of the game, and many ordinary clubs host a session alongside their usual ones. Sessions are typically an hour, social, and open to all ages and abilities; most ask nothing of you but a pair of trainers.

Details vary by country and club, so the listing on the map is the place to check who runs it, when, and whether there is a cost. If something on a listing looks wrong, tell us and it will be fixed.

Is it for me?

Never played, or not for decades?

This is the form of the game built for you. Walking pace means there is time to learn the footwork, and nobody is sprinting past.

Coming back from injury or illness?

Many players use walking netball to get back on court gently. Check with your doctor or physio, then look for a social session.

Run a club and want to start a session?

Your national body has resources for walking netball. Once you are running it, add "Walking netball" to your listing so people can find it.
